About organisation

The Lithuanian Ethnic Culture Association is a social organisation, founded in 1989 at the dawn of the Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence. The mission of the organisation is to rally personalities and organisations, working in the fields of Lithuanian ethnic culture, collecting, preserving, researching national tangible and intangible heritage, developing and transmitting living traditions in cooperative manner. Members of the Association are active in such fields, as activity of folk groups and clubs, organisation of traditional Calendar celebrations, collection and preservation of heritage, development of ethno-cultural teaching and scientific research; popularization of dialects, traditional crafts and folk art, development of ethno-cultural tourism, ethno-visual art (photography, video art), promotion of ethnic culture and national identity, integration of ethnic culture in the professional art. The Association seeks the prioritization of the safeguarding of the Lithuanian ethnic culture in the State’s policy, advocates for the interests of pedagogues in ethnic culture, folk groups, clubs and other groups. The Association cooperates with other Lithuanian and foreign organisations declaring similar aspirations.

Projects

The Association organises events of the traditional dance club in Vilnius (since 2002), international traditional dance summer camps (since 2004), Rasos (Midsummer) celebrations at the Verkiai Regional Park (since 2008). Implemented projects: „Folklore gates: compilation and dissemination of information on ethnic culture and folk art” (2015–2018); “Survey on ethnic cultural values and attitudes in national politics” (2016–2017); “Sutartinės’ export to USA: interdisciplinary project “Protėviai” (Ancestors) by Abraham Brody and the group “Trys keturiose” (2018).
