About organisation
The Ukmergė Branch of the Lithuanian Retirees’ Union “Bočiai” is a social organisation uniting the elderly people. It aims to involve the elderly into various social activities, as arts (choirs, vocal and instrumental groups, dance groups), to propagate healthy nutrition and lifestyles, to organise educational tours in Lithuania and abroad, to make ties between people of Ukmergė and the neighboring districts, to communicate with village communities of the districts, to assist at care houses.
Projects
One of the brightest projects of 2019 was the friendship bridge between elderly people of Ukmergė and Telšiai districts on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of mentioning of the Samogitia’s name. The delegation on tour consisted of 50 Ukmergė’s seniors, who welcomed the Samogitians, seniors of Telšiai, on the anniversary occasion and toured the region for 2 days. In 2018 the project “Culture Bridge Ukmergė–Riga”, dedicated to the Centennial of Lithuanian and Latvia States, was implemented. A numerous crowd of performers of the branch together with representatives of the Riga’s Lithuanian community took part in festive events in Riga.
